All salts are sea salts either mined as rock, or evaporated from saline solution. Our fossilized mineral salts are rock mined from an environmentally protected dead lake bed in Redmond, Utah that was sealed by volcanic activity during the Jurassic era. Many credit Ancient Egyptians with the creation of perfume. Cleopatra, Queen of the Nile, soaked the sails of her barge in perfume. Egyptian men and women wore perfume in their hair, Pharaohs burned incense in honor of their gods. Vases of fragrance were found in Tutankhamen?s tomb, still fragrant three thousand years later.
The art of perfumery traveled across countries and continents; Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and beyond. Middle Eastern women would burn incense and hold their robes over the smoke so that their tunics would take on the luminous scents. Queens and women of Europe wore perfumed gloves and people of the African continent rubbed perfume oils over their skin as a protective from the hot, drying sun. Why Palm WaxTM is the Flame of the Future

 100% pure natural Palm Wax? is made from fruit berries of the palm oil tree. This same high quality palm tree oil can be found in hand lotions, shampoos and cosmetics. It's the purest non-GMO food quality wax.
- Palm Wax? is made just like essential oils simply pressed and distilled. Soy and paraffin candles involve solvent extraction using petroleum chemicals like hexane.

- Ounce for ounce Palm Wax? candles burn longer. Our candles burn on average 1 to 2 hours longer than comparable size paraffin candles.

There is concern over black soot deposition and indoor candle air pollution. Homeowners have begun to complain about the "dark film" around electrical outlets, computer screens, curtains, and the like.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission met with the National Candle Association to discourage the use of lead-cored wicks. To our knowledge, very few American manufacturers ever used lead wicks, although some, until recently, used zinc core wicks. The issue of exposure to lead (or other metals) from burning candles seems to be related to the steep increase in imports of candles from Asia. These low-cost candles typically consist of low-grade paraffin (containing impurities) and metal core wicks.

Black soot can be a problem, especially with candles made of inferior waxes and fragrances. All candles emit soot. The amount of soot a candle releases depends on the quality of the fuel (wax and fragrance) and the way in which the fuel is burnt.
Therefore, to create the cleanest burning candle, the following criteria have to be met:
- Top grade "fuel". The waxes and fragrances used should burn up entirely and evenly.
- A finely tuned "carburetor". The wick should be carefully calibrated for each type of candle.
- Control of the "airflow" around the flame. The flame needs a sufficient and continuous supply of fresh air (oxygen).
O UR WICKS are made of top grade cotton, braided and treated to burn most efficiently. We have never used lead or zinc in any of our wick materials. Most of our wicks have a tiny paper core, which prevents the wick from collapsing into the liquid wax. Each wick is designed for our specific was blend, fragrance concentrations, and jar size. If the wick is too small, it will not consume the fuel as fast as it is melted. Conversely, if the wick is too thick, it will cause the flame to smoke. We also found that better results are achieved with multiple small wicks as opposed to a single thick wick. All our wicks come from the most respected wick manufacturer in the world: a German company that has produced quality wicks for generations, while staying on the leading edge of wick technology. Failure to keep the wick trimmed to 1/4" at all times will cause any candle to smoke.

OUR SPECIAL WIDE MOUTHED JARS were chosen to regulate the airflow around the wick and to insure that nearly all the wax in the jar actually burns up. Excessive wax left on the sides can interfere with the airflow. When the neck of a jar is too narrow, the fresh air is sucked into the jar in gusts, causing the flame to flare up and belch smoke. In many cases by the time the jar candle is consumed, the whole neck of the jar is black with soot, which indicates that a lot of soot has been released into the room.
- Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch, and do not
place near drafts, fans, or air conditioning.
- Keep jar free of wick trimmings and other debris.
Flammable material in melted wax can act as a
renegade wick.
- Burn for at least 45 minutes at a time. When
burning our wax, it is important to allow the candle
to burn long enough so that the wax pool reaches all
the way across the top of the container. This allows
for a larger pool of scent and maximizes the release
or the "throw" of the fragrance into the air.
- Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Always burn on a fire-resistant, flat surface. Do not
place glass jar directly on lacquered furniture.
All our candles have wicks all the way through to the
bottom.
- Always store in a cool dry place. Do not freeze.
- To avoid fading, do not place in direct sunlight.

Our story began in 1977 with one incredible Triloka fragrance- Balalaika. From the success of this one fragrance, in both US and Europe, the complete line of Triloka hand-blended and hand-rolled quality incense became what it is today. Then in 1978, with the help of two women from a remote village in India, we launched the first of our extensive line of textiles- small pouches made from woven bedspreads. And so it began...
Since those early days we have broadened our network to include various Fair Trade groups. The majority of our products are handmade by small cottage industries that we work closely with to ensure that each item produced is made by skilled crafters that are treated fairly and humanely. While traveling annually to visit our suppliers, we have the pleasure of personally meeting workers and developing new products. We encourage the preservation of traditional skills, techniques and crafts which are centuries old, yet are disappearing in many villages due to the onset of technology.
Our primary focus is to utilize suppliers who are supporting worthy projects, foundations, or even individual families. We have worked with many of these groups for over twenty-five years. Here are some of the projects supported by our suppliers:

Our Ayurvedic Chakra incense line has been custom blended to incorporate ancient knowledge of Vedic medicine and the yogic knowledge of the energy that emanates through the charkas (energy centers of the body). Ayurveda, the ?science of healthy life? originated in the Himalayas thousands of years ago.
Aromatherapy has been part of this Vedic tradition for ages. In Ayurveda, certain flowers, woods, herbs, resins, and oils are recommended to bring about the balance of energy resulting in a healthy body and mind. Celtic Sea Salt® is under kosher supervision. We have permission to display a Hedsher symbol on the salt labels. This permission is obtained through inspection by a Rabbi, who makes unannounced visits. The Rabbi inspects the facility, with emphasis on the salt room procedures, purchasing documents and cleaning products used. The guidelines for packaging the salt are posted inside and just outside the salt room. Our salt is considered Parve (pronounced par-v), meaning it is neither a meat or a dairy food, but a neutral one. Our salt is also acceptable for use during Passover, a designation not found on many mainstream products. |
